This is quite a good one, insofar as there are not as many supernatural stories set at sea as there should be (discuss?). Moreover, Hodgson knew a great deal about the sea having been a sailor when he was younger, so all the top gallants and yard-arms and eight bells have a ring of authenticity. Anyone seeking a bit more of the old briny and Davy Jones's Locker can find an excellent story by Arthur Conan Doyle on here, called Captain of the Polestar (for younger listeners this is not an EV) and also there's a complete and unabridged reading of Treasure Island hereabouts too. Just mentioning this in case you are becalmed in the doldrums and want a bit of piratical hoop-la to jump start the old motors. (?) Anyway, this story was read by Greg Wagland for Magpie Audio.
